EGBS AD 2.19  RADIO NAVIGATION AND LANDING AIDS

EGBS AD 2.20  LOCAL AERODROME REGULATIONS

1  Airport Regulations
  1. Non-radio aircraft only accepted by prior arrangement.

  2. Runway 08 is not licensed for night use.

  3. Each aircraft commander is responsible for the safety of their passengers and other crew members. To ensure the safety of passengers and crew members, the aircraft commander or other competent crew member is to supervise and escort passengers whilst airside.

  4. All pilots and personnel, except for passengers and other persons that are being escorted, shall wear high visibility clothing whilst airside.

2  Ground Movement
  1. Pilots should exercise caution taxiing to and from the Fuel Bay. Aircraft taxiing to the Fuel Bay cross a Bridleway which is used by vehicular traffic, not under the control of the aerodrome operator.

  2. On days when parachuting onto the airfield is notified by NOTAM, pilots must call for engine start.

3  CAT II/III Operations

Not applicable

4  Warnings
  1. Visiting pilots are warned of intensive gliding on the north side of the aerodrome. Aircraft joining overhead should not descend below 1500 FT QFE dead side due gliding. Descend to circuit height when south of runway centre-line.

  2. Pilots should use the access taxiway to Runway 08 with caution. Distance between taxiway centre-line and fence is 10 M.

  3. Departure from the marked movement area can be hazardous.

  4. During periods of heavy rain runway is liable to have patches of standing water.

  5. Pilots landing at night should land as near as possible to the centre of the runway as the surface on the two outer sections (width 36 M) is rough in places. Runway edge lights are not located along the declared width of the runway.

  6. A boundary fence on the western edge of the paved taxiway leading to Taxi-Holding Point Bravo, infringes the taxiway strip by 5 M. The fence is marked with high-visibility/reflective markings

  7. Windshear may occur when the following conditions apply: Mountain wave accompanied by wind with a northern component.

  8. Parachuting takes place onto the airfield on days notified by NOTAM. The NOTAM will specify the dimensions and heights of the drop-zone. Pilots should contact Shobdon Information or Radio on 118.155 for information about scheduled parachuting. Information also available by calling 01568-708369.

  9. Periods, usually of up to 15 minutes duration, when parachuting is in progress will be broadcast by Shobdon Information or Radio. During such periods the airfield is closed to all other traffic.

  10. Pilots should exercise caution when entering or vacating the asphalt runway via holding points A, B1 or C, as this requires crossing the unlicensed grass runway or its approach/climb-out.

5  Helicopter Operations
  1. Holding point 'X' established north of Taxiway A dedicated for the use of helicopters outbound from Tiger Helicopters Limited.

  2. Helicopter circuits operate parallel to and inside fixed wing circuits up to a maximum of 700 FT QFE.

  3. Arrivals will normally approach to join downwind or base leg on the live side at 700 FT to remain below the fixed wing circuit at 1000 FT.

  4. Arrivals from the north will normally approach to join base leg on the dead side or overhead in accordance with the noise abatement join procedure detailed in Warnings, paragraph 4(a). CAUTION – if Gliding Ops taking place, the circuit for which is on the north/dead side, helicopters joining base leg should give the glider circuit a wide berth.

  5. Helicopters are required to comply with noise abatement procedures as detailed in AD 2.21.

  6. Helicopters requiring AVGAS are required to alight on the grass as directed by ATS, with rotors clear of the roadway.

  7. After departure or line up clearance issued, helicopters will cross the grass taxiway onto the grass runway or main runway to depart or report ready.

  8. Helicopters taxiing are asked to operate their aircraft so as to minimise the effect of their downdraft on nearby aircraft parked on the grass.

  9. Rotors running refuelling (Jet A1 only) available for approved helicopter types subject to staff availability.

6  Use of Runways
  1. Shobdon has three parallel runways. They are not available for simultaneous landings or departures.

  2. The Glider Strip (North Grass runway) and Microlight Strip (South Grass runway) are unlicensed.

7  Training

Not applicable

EGBS AD 2.21  NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES

  1. Following take-off on Runway 26, the heading is maintained until Rowe Ditch (a line of hedges running north/south approximately 0.5 nm west of Runway 08 threshold); when a left turn through 90° is made and the southbound crosswind leg flown just to the west of Rowe Ditch. After climbing to 1000 ft QFE crosswind, the heading should be maintained until passing Pembridge on the left, after which a downwind turn can be commenced.

  2. Operations for Runway 08 are the exact reciprocal of Runway 26 with the base leg flown with the Rowe Ditch line feature kept to the right of track.

EGBS AD 2.22  FLIGHT PROCEDURES

1  Circuits
  1. Circuit directions:

    1. Powered aircraft circuit: Runway 26 - LH; Runway 08 – RH (south of airfield);

    2. Gliding circuit (including glider tug): opposite direction to powered aircraft (north of airfield).

  2. Circuit heights:

    1. Powered fixed-wing circuits at 1000 FT QFE to the south of the villages of Pembridge and Eardisland;

    2. Microlight circuits at 500 FT QFE;

    3. Helicopter circuits at 700 FT QFE inside the normal circuit pattern;

    4. Gliding circuit (including glider tug) at variable heights as necessitated.

  3. Radio failure procedure for a powered aircraft in VMC is for the circuit to be joined overhead not below 2000 FT QFE and to let down on the dead side, joining over the upwind end of the active runway, observing any light signals displayed.

  4. Radio failure procedure for a glider in VMC is to join the normal glider circuit, keeping a good look-out for other traffic and land when safe on an available runway.
